Program Levels

Baby Gills Skill Focus
· Introduction to the water
· Child bonding
· Water acclimation
· Muscle development
· Having fun in the pool

Our Baby Gills class is fun for everyone involved and creates lasting memories. We focus on water acclimation and comfort through play and repetition. For our Baby Gills, each parent will be coached by the instructor for the next skill to be conquered and celebrated! Learning at their own pace with the love of their own parents. What could be better?

Baby personalities will show immediately as some will kick and scream in delight and some will just need extra cuddling. Together baby and parent will gain confidence and skill through splash and play. Young babies will not learn to swim in this class (or be water safe) but will increase muscle development by stretching out their new arms and legs in the weightless environment. Coordination and awareness increase through movement and stimulation. Older babies (24-30 months) frequently become water safe with consistency and parent dedication.

Our teaching pool is kept at a comfortable 87 degrees to aid in relaxation. Moms, Dads, and Grandparents will treasure their time together as babies gain trust and confidence in the water. Parents will be educated in water safety as babies progress at their own pace eventually finding comfort both in and under the water.

Starting your child in the water, as a young baby, will help prevent anxiety and fear moving forward with water activities. Children will also transition easily into our lesson program when they are ready. Staying consistent with water exploration and lessons is the key to creating a positive experience for your child.

Baby Gills class is 30 minutes in length but here baby knows best. Class size is limited to 8.

**Ideal age range for Baby Gills is 3-30 months.

Squirts Skill Focus:
· Water safety
· Independence in the water
· Comfortable in & under the water
· Kicking & floating in the water
· Entering & exiting pools safely

Our Squirts class is a beginner class for very young children who are not safe or independent in the water.

Children will learn to relax and feel comfortable in the water and develop basic skills necessary for swimming success. Water safety procedures are introduced and emphasized through each lesson.

This class is 30 minutes in length. The first and last 5 minutes will be a warm up and a cool down. Actual learning time is 20 minutes. Maximum number of students is 4.

To avoid goggle dependency, we DO NOT recommend goggles at this level.

*Ideal age for Squirts is 2-5 years, and up to 8 years.  ** Please be advised, we take the following into consideration when placing children into the appropriate skill level: skill, maturity, & age.

Bubbles Skill Focus:
· Breathing techniques
· Kicking with Kickboards & fins
· Advanced backfloats and rollovers
· Increasing coordination in the water

Our Bubbles class uses many of the skills learned in the previous Squirts class, however, skills must now be accomplished INDEPENDENTLY.

Breathing techniques in this level are critical to all strokes. Your little champion will already start to benefit from the cardiovascular and coordination benefits of swimming. Prepare for big appetites and naps!

This class is 30 minutes in length. Maximum number of students is 4.

**Children at this level are DANGEROUSLY CONFIDENT.  Please watch your children around water.  Swimming lessons DO NOT preclude constant adult supervision at this age and level.

*Ideal age for Bubbles is 2-5 years, and up to 8 years.  ** Please be advised, we take the following into consideration when placing children into the appropriate skill level: skill, maturity, & age.

Dory Skill Focus:
· Beginning stroke work
· Treading water
· Building strength & endurance
· Streamlines
· Beginning dives

Our Dory class is fast moving, and swimmers will be met with energy and enthusiasm by their instructor! Children have already learned many skills and are now having a lot of fun in the water.

Our Dory class is unique as it also teaches the doggie paddle. Learning doggie paddle gives children the freedom to play and exercise independently or without assistance. However, constant supervision, while your child is in the water, is always recommended.

We consider children “pool safe” when they can navigate through the water without water aids or assistance from others, and completion of this level is VERY significant.

Continuation of lessons are imperative at this stage especially if the child is young. Children will forget skills, loose cardiovascular gains, and coordination will plateau.

The use of goggles is now permitted.

This class is 30 minutes in length. Maximum of 4 students.

*Ideal age for Dory is 3-6 years, and up to 8 years.  ** Please be advised, we take the following into consideration when placing children into the appropriate skill level: skill, maturity, & age.

Nemo Skill Focus:
· Four competitive strokes
· Dolphin & breaststroke kicks
· Underwater swims
· Diving for objects
· Beginning emphasis on technique

Our Nemo class students are completely water safe and starting to develop into competent swimmers. Swimming at this level will start to require strength and endurance. Progress will be in proportion to the child’s age, maturity, and physical condition.

Students in this class are learning the skills of the four competitive strokes. It is a very exciting level as athletes explore which stroke fits them best. Drills and technique are emphasized to lay the groundwork for success.

This class is 30 minutes in length. Maximum of 6 students.

*Ideal age for Nemo is 4+ years.  ** Please be advised, we take the following into consideration when placing children into the appropriate skill level: skill, maturity, & age.

All-Stars Skill Focus:
· Drills & Repetition
· Cardiovascular improvement
· Advanced technique work
· Transition from lessons to competitive
· Learning to use a pace clock

All-Stars is a seasonally run pre-swim team group designed to prepare your swimmer to participate on a recreational or club swim team. Swimmers will need to re-enroll for each new session throughout the year. Each session is billed on a monthly basis. The first few days of each session will be used for evaluation of your swimmer.

To be eligible for the team, swimmers MUST BE PROFICIENT in freestyle with side-breathing as well as backstroke & have familiarity with breaststroke & butterfly. Swimmers must demonstrate 25-50 yards (depending on age) of freestyle & backstroke to participate at this level.

Swimmers may be asked demonstrate all four strokes (freestyle w/side breathing, backstroke, breaststroke, & butterfly) so that we can assess their ability level. If your swimmer is not yet ready for the All-Stars group, we will recommend that your swimmer be transferred into our swimming lesson program to further develop their strokes and technique.

Sessions are run during the following times of year:

Summer: June through July/August

Fall: September through Mid-November

Winter: January through Mid-March

Spring: Mid-March through May

Practice is offered 4x per week (Mon-Thurs) in 45 min to one-hour increments. Practices are broken into separate age groups (5-8 yrs old, 9-12 yrs old, & 13-16 yrs old). Athletes should be in their suits so they can jump right into the water & be ready to swim upon arrival at the aquatic center. During practices, we will continue to refine strokes through drills and repetition while keeping it fun and challenging. Coaches will introduce a variety of new skills including but not limited to: treading water, dives, open turns, flip turns, racing starts, relay races, etc.

Please be advised, we take the following into consideration when placing children into the appropriate skill level: skill, maturity, & age.
